Born and raised in rural Ireland, Brendan McAtamney’s early interest in the arts lead him to study design and silversmithing in Belfast. He earned his MFA in Scotland but has claimed Philadelphia as home for the past fifteen years. McAtamney’s passion for wood and innovative design has lead him to turn wood on the lathe. He utilizes both stock lumber, which he laminates to create elegant, balanced pieces, as well as knotty, irregular wood salvaged from Philadelphia’s parks, historic homes and church yards. McAtamney’s vessels represent the culmination of his process, exploring the beauty, functional form, and expressive capacity of wood.
